WhistlePig Transcends Boundaries with Oldest Single Malt Yet:

The BigShǝBàng, Aged 30 Years

Big news coming from Shoreham, VT today, in the form of the oldest (and most expensive) North American Single Malt we’ve seen hit the market. WhistlePig unveils the BigShǝBàng, which I understand to be the final installment of their ultra premium North American Single Malt line. Following it’s younger siblings The Béhôlden (aged 21 years), and The Badönkådonk (aged 25 years), The BigShǝBàng is aged 30 years and sports a custom finish in “holy wine” casks. Read along for the press release and tasting notes from yours truly.

WhistlePig Transcends Boundaries with Oldest Single Malt Yet:

The BigShǝBàng, Aged 30 Years

One sip of whiskey is one giant leap for Single Maltkind

SHOREHAM, VT (Sept. 3, 2025) – In the beginning, there was Rye… Today, a megacosmic whiskey event shakes the spirits world to its core. Enter WhistlePig 30 Single Malt – The BigShǝBàng, a super aged anomaly here to astound palates with a cosmic shift in the Single Malt world order.

Three decades in the making and aged longer than any other N. American Single Malt, The BigShǝBàng (Aged 30 Years) is the oldest and rarest release ever from the boundary-breaking whiskey maker. WhistlePig’s Super Aged Single Malt journey began with The Béhôlden (Aged 21 Years) in 2023, followed by The Badönkådonk (Aged 25 Years) in 2024. This year, fewer than four barrels of The BigShǝBàng are available, joined by limited annual releases of its 21- and 25-year-old counterparts.

The BigShǝBàng is singular in both age and maturation – with 30 years in American Oak followed by supernal secondary aging in Vin Santo barrels. The revered Italian dessert wine is rare in its own right, crafted through labor intensive, low yield methods that create velvety character with profound depth.

“We didn’t wait for our Single Malt’s 30th birthday just to play it safe. The BigShǝBàng is a flavor supernova – radiant, otherworldly, and unlike anything we’ve ever put in a bottle.” said Meghan Ireland, Head Blender at WhistlePig. “We’ve been hunting down Vin Santo barrels for a few years now, and the stars finally aligned with a precious few to finish this inaugural release. As with many of our most elusive casks, they’ve proved to be a catalyst for complexity that’s well worth the quest.”

The BigShǝBàng delivers flavor without limit: honeyed bread, wheat crust and nuanced florality on the nose; trailed by subtle clove, freshly kneaded dough and honeysuckle on the palate; reaching its apogee with toasted cedar and echoing, delicate sweetness. With each Single Barrel bottle at 90.4 proof, this is a once-in-a-generation whiskey for collectors and epicurean explorers alike.

Extremely limited and not available online, The BigShǝBàng will be available to taste at The WhistlePig Vault in Louisville, Kentucky this Fall and the best establishments nationally.

Prepare for impact. The BigShǝBàng has arrived. Alongside its colossal counterparts, The BigShǝBàng completes a new trinity of North American Single Malt:

  • The Béhôlden – Aged 21 Years: Finished in WhistlePig Rye Barrels | SRP: $899.99
  • The Badönkådonk – Aged 25 Years: Finished in Silver Oak Cabernet Barrels | SRP: $1,999.99
  • The BigShǝBàng – Aged 30 Years: Finished in Vin Santo Barrels | SRP: $4,999

Limited quantities of the 21 and 25 Year remain available online at https://www.whistlepigwhiskey.com/shop.

Tasting Notes from TheBourbonFinder

I can already see myself wanting to do a full lineup of all three WhistlePig N. American Malt offerings and compare them in a future post so be sure to stay tuned for that, but for now here are my tasting notes on The BigShǝBàng:

Immediately strikes me with rich shortcake and huge desserty vibes. Vanilla, buttercream, layers of light fruits and a dash of apple crisp (or cobbler, if you prefer) a dash of doughiness on the nose as well, which is followed by a prominent finish that comes back around to an almost strawberry shortcake finish.
